Review and manage exposure

Diagram preview

Drag to pan, or use arrow keys when the diagram is focused. Use plus and minus to zoom, and zero to fit. On a touch screen, pinch to zoom.

Confirm fills and remaining exposure before acting again on a reducing order.

Positions lists the market, direction, current size, entry price, mark price, PNL, and available risk details. A long gains from a higher exit price before costs; a short gains from a lower exit price before costs. Unrealized PNL values an open position, while realized PNL records closed activity.

Open exposure comes from the current account snapshot. Entry, funding, and liquidation details may still be syncing from another account view. Read the freshness message and treat missing values as unavailable. A recent Position History timestamp does not make an old open-position snapshot current.

Use Portfolio to review positions across markets.

Close the full position

  • 01Open Trade → Positions. If the row says Open market to close, select it and wait for that market’s live data.
  • 02Check that the position size and account snapshot are fresh.
  • 03Select Close. This submits a reduce-only market order for the position size being closed.
  • 04Read the action status, inspect its fills, and confirm the remaining position size.

Close requests use immediate execution rules and may fill only partly. Close remaining means there is still exposure to review. The absence of a position row during a refresh is not enough to prove a successful exit.

Reduce part of a position

To reduce a chosen amount, use the order ticket for the same market, select the opposite direction, enable Reduce Only, and enter the quantity to reduce. Use Market for immediate execution subject to liquidity, or Limit to set a price condition. Review the fresh preview before submitting.

For a long position, the reducing direction is Sell. For a short position, it is Buy. Recheck the unit selector and quantity. Without Reduce Only, an oversized opposite-side order may open exposure in the other direction.

A resting reducing limit order leaves exposure open until it fills. Continue monitoring the position while it waits.

Resolve an uncertain close

If a close is accepted but still being reconciled, check its status and the account. If the outcome is unknown, keep the original close request and select Check status before any retry. An explicit Retry exact close can execute if the first request never arrived, so verify the current position and application checks first.

Do not replace an uncertain close with a fresh opposite-side order. Do not assume that disappearing open-order or position rows prove execution. Confirm through current lifecycle state, fills, and fresh remaining exposure.

Closing can be blocked if the market is not accepting reducing orders or fresh data is unavailable. See troubleshooting.

Current positions and position history

The live position view shows current direction, size and available risk information. Position History groups an exposure into an episode, with its recorded opening and closing details, costs and cumulative funding. These views can update at different times.

Missing details remain unavailable until supplied by the relevant account data. Account-wide realized PNL is not the realized PNL of an individual position episode. Use the episode’s own record for its result, and check the account’s connection and freshness state before treating an empty position view as a flat account.
