Collateral and balances
Separate the asset backing the account from the market exposure you trade.
Use the asset shown by your account
Collateral supports the obligations created by trading. It is distinct from the underlying asset of a perpetual market. Opening a BTC perpetual position, for example, does not deposit BTC into your account.
Devnet markets currently use USD.E. Use current product metadata to identify the supported collateral of your actual venue. Read the account asset, the market settlement asset, and the funding screen before moving funds. A market’s quote label does not establish a supported deposit token.
Deposit only assets explicitly enabled in your account. USDCx contract support does not by itself make USDCx available for funding. See environments and deposits.
Read the account summary
Portfolio and the terminal show separate balance measures. Check the asset label and freshness state alongside each amount.
| Field | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Cash Balance | The account’s reported cash balance; it does not include all the information needed to size a new order. |
| Account Equity | The account’s reported value including current position valuation. It can change while a position remains open. |
| Available for Orders | The service’s current available amount after applicable risk and reservations. Use the fresh order preview to evaluate a specific order. |
| Margin Mode | The mode reported for the account. Viewing it is not a request to change it. |
Separate collateral from exposure
Order Value measures exposure. Margin Required measures the collateral requirement estimated for the order. They are not interchangeable. Changing leverage changes the risk calculation; it does not credit more collateral.
For a simple illustration, a size of 2 units at a price of 100 has a notional value of 200 before fees. The actual required margin depends on the market’s live parameters and your account. Use the server preview rather than dividing by a guessed leverage limit.
Fees, funding, fills, open orders, and withdrawal reservations can affect available amounts. See margin and liquidation.
Confirm freshness before acting
A reconnect can leave an old balance visible while account updates recover. Wait for a fresh account snapshot before relying on it for a trade or withdrawal. A green market connection or a recently refreshed history timestamp does not prove that the account balance is live.
After a deposit or withdrawal, check both the operation’s current result and the fresh account summary. If the numbers have not reconciled, keep following the existing operation rather than repeating it. See troubleshooting.
The shared stock margin layer is planned
The planned On-Chain Margin Layer will connect eligible Edel Stocks with perpetual margin. Stocks are not currently supported collateral in the Markets terminal. Eligibility, valuation, haircuts, concentration limits and custody requirements will define how the margin layer works when available.
Current Devnet markets use USD.E with six decimal places. The custody contracts also support USDCx with ten decimal places where that funding route is enabled. Use the asset, scale and funding instructions shown by your environment; contract support alone does not make an asset available for deposit.
Product ecosystem
Edel brings tokenized equities and perpetual trading into one ecosystem. Each product has its own instruments, account requirements and release status.
Markets. The trading terminal connects to product APIs for market data, order entry and account state. A dedicated off-chain engine handles matching and risk; Canton holds collateral and settles netted obligations.
Stocks. Edel Stocks provides tokenized equity instruments on Canton. Holding a stock token is different from opening an equity-referenced perpetual position.
The planned connection. The On-Chain Margin Layer is intended to let eligible Edel Stocks support perpetual margin. That connection is planned and is not part of the current Markets collateral offering. Devnet markets currently use USD.E; supported funding assets are shown in the account.
